Hi, I’m Sheila, and I’m the photographer behind Castle Color Photography.
You’ll often find me in sweatpants and a tank top, or shorts and a t-shirt when I’m shooting. Since my sessions usually involve sand, water, and plenty of movement, comfort is my go-to. As a busy mom, it just makes sense! Not to worry, though—if the occasion calls for it, I can dress it up 😉
Growing up, my family owned a portrait studio in Ohio (that’s where the name Castle Color Photography comes from). While I never lived there, when I visited family I spent a lot of time at the studio, which ignited my passion for photography at a young age. As a teenager, I also dabbled in modeling. This gave me a deeper appreciation for the art of capturing the human body, angles, moments, creativity, and emotions through the lens.
Now, I’m fortunate to live here on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, where I’ve spent my entire life. This area is a constant source of inspiration for me, and I’m excited to help you preserve the beauty of your own memories through photography. My goal is to create images that last a lifetime, whether it’s a family album, a stunning portrait for your wall, or a special photo to look back on for years to come. I’ve always been the one behind the camera in my family (which means I’m often missing from the photos!), but now I’m thrilled to help fill your albums and your walls with meaningful moments that tell your story.
Creative photography is my favorite, and I love working with clients on unique, fun ideas. If you have a vision but aren’t sure how to bring it to life, don’t hesitate to reach out! I’d love to collaborate and make it happen.
When I’m not behind the camera, you’ll usually find me surrounded by my family, crafting something new, or lost in a good book. I’ve always loved stories (especially historical fiction) and I am often listening to audiobooks while I’m on the go. There’s something magical about being transported to another time or place.
I’m happiest when I’m creating, whether it’s capturing a candid moment, sewing, embroidery. or learning to paint with watercolor. I also love spending time outdoors, hiking mountain trails, camping under the stars, cooking for the people I love, and tending to my garden. Some of my favorite memories are the ones made on family trips, sleeping in tents and soaking in the quiet nature.
If you follow me on social media, you’ll often hear the music I’m currently jamming to or see a quote from a book that’s been speaking to me lately. Songs, stories, and snippets of inspiration are the heartbeat of my creative world.
I’ve always dreamed of traveling across the globe, exploring new cultures, and learning from people whose lives are different from my own. One day, when my kids are grown, my dream is to travel to Bolivia and volunteer at the animal sanctuary Inti Wara Yassi, working side by side with pumas.
I really enjoy being able to share my photography, music, and the wonderful books I am reading with all of you, it means a lot to have your support, interest, and enthusiasm.
Photography is more than just a job to me, it’s a passion. I’m so grateful to be able to share it with you and to help you capture the moments that matter most.
